Software:

Overall, the Carbon Poker 17.5MB software runs incredibly smoothy and uses Merge Gaming technology as well as its network. Despite both Carbon Poker and Merge’s network young status, the software offer great playability and financial information is kept incredibly secure. Below is a summary of at-table and lobby options, functions and statistics.

Table:

(For a list of the games offered at Carbon Poker scroll down the page to our game variety section) The Carbon Poker graphics are clean but not over-the-top. Instead of 3-D avatars, there are easily visible icons with username, chip amount and status (action, folded, etc.). See a screenshot below.

The table view has a dialog box in the bottom left corner has tabs for chatting, player options, info, and stats.  These tabs allow you to converse with other players, see the log of bets, take notes on opposing players, see viewed flop percentages, average pot size, hands played per hour, and get hand histories. Currently, however, there is no function allowing you to export these hand histories.

While logged into the Carbon Poker client you may play at up to eight different tables simultaneously and may choose to utilize a mini-view function if you prefer.  Many players also feel that the simplicity of the graphics makes it even easier when you are playing at multiple different tables.

Lobby:

In the lobby you can view all of the ring game and tournament tables by poker game. Each game can be sorted by limit, stake, number of people seated and on the waitlist. There are also sortable statistics on viewed-flop percentage, average pot size and the number of hands per hour. While highlighted, player usernames, city location and chip amounts are also viewable on the left-hand side of the screen.  There is also a function where you can track “My Games” and “Contacts”

The lobby is also where you redeem Comp Points for rewards and withdraw/deposit funds with the cashier. There are also tabs for other casino games and industry news as well.

Score: 8/10

Games:

The Carbon Poker rooms hosts a variety of No-limit, Fixed-Limit, and Pot-limit games including Texas Hold ’em, Omaha Hi, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven-Card Stud Hi, Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo, Five-Card Draw, Five-Card Stud, Razz, Triple Draw and Badugi. Currently, the ring-game players and tournament players compete primarily in Hold’ em and Omaha cash games. In addition, Carbon Poker offers several multi-table tournaments and sit-and-gos for members who prefer that type of play.

Score: 10/10

Competition:

As a new site, Carbon Poker draws a great deal of beginning online poker players who reside primarily in the lower stakes, popular games like Texas Hold’em and Omaha.  The competition is relatively strong at the higher stakes although skilled poker players would be wise to put Carbon Poker at the very top of their list of sites to test their talent.  Games are relatively loose all around but cerainly tighten up at the higher stakes tables.

Score: 8/10

Rake Structure:

The rake structure Carbon Poker is an industry standard 5% of the total flop with a max rake of $3 per hand.  It is taken, for nearly all games, in $0.01 increments for every $0.20 added to the pot.  “No Flop, No Drop” policy is instated which means any rake that would have been collected before the flop is not if that particular player folds before he/she sees the flop.

Score: 7/10

Carbon Poker offers 24/7 live-chat and E-mail support. E-mails are returned within 24 hours and are very helpful.  Live chat personnel are polite and quick to answer your queries.
