PlayersOnly Poker is a relatively new site on the growing Cake network and only accepts U.S. players. This restriction limits their ring-game traffic, but players can still find limit and no-limit Texas Hold’em games with ease at nearly all hours of the day. Real-money player statistics for May ‘08 show 1,700 ring-game players and 6,000 tournament players at peak hours.

PlayersOnly poker also offers loyalty promotions in the form of frequent player points for real-money play in ring-games and tournaments. A player who was dealt cards in a particular ring-game is awarded one frequent player point per dollar the casino rakes. Also, for every dollar paid in tournament entry-fees, a player earns seven FFP’s.

 

These PlayersOnly FFP’s can be used in several ways. As you accumulate them you choose to be also awarded with either “Gold Cards” or “Gold Chips.” Gold Cards are awarded and generated at random with odds attached to them. Every day, PlayersOnly holds a Gold Card Lottery and if you can match it with a card from your collection you can win a series of massive prizes including cash or seats at exclusive tournaments.

 

Gold Chips are awarded once a certain amount of FFP’s are accumulated and the amount required to collect a gold chip is reduced the more often you play in a given month. These chips can be used to enter into exclusive tournaments and other Weekly Gold Chip Giveaways. Finally, your FFP’s can be redeemed for bonus payouts within 90 days of the creation of the pending bonus account. Each FFP is worth 6 cents and when the total bonus equals $10, the FFP’s are automatically redeemed and the $10 are added to the player’s account.

Software:

Overall, the The PlayersOnly 11.2MB software runs very smoothly with great playability and financial information is kept incredibly secure. The amount and quality of the individual statistics, options, and functions are on par with the rest of the online poker industry despite entering in only 2006.

Table:

(For a list of the games offered at PlayersOnly scroll down the page to our game variety section) The PlayersOnly tables can seat as many as eleven players which are represented as some actually very nice looking 3-D avatars. The backgrounds and table colors are also completely customizable to allow players to identify different tables on which they are playing.

While at the table there is a diaglog box in the bottom left corner. Just above the box are four tabs listed Chat, Notes, Stats, and Info. The Chat allows you to converse with other players and have a log of the dealer announcing the bets played. The stats tab allows you to see several personal statistics on your play including your personal viewed-flop percentage, win percentage, etc.

The Notes function allows you to take stats on — and remind yourself of — opponents you have played. Unfortunately, you do have to scroll through players’s names, but once there you have the ability to attach a symbol to them for easy reminders and viewing. Hand histories are downloadable on your computer and available to use while you play are nicely sorted out and include a log of player chat if you want to savor a lucky or well-deserved victory.

While logged into the PlayersOnly Client you can view an unlimited amount of poker tables but may only be playing at four of them — slightly disappointing and made worse by the fact that there are no mini view options. The benefit is that the play, even in the multi-table setting, the software runs smoothly, and there is very little downtime during update periods.

Lobby:

In the lobby you can view all of the ring game and tournament tables by poker game. Each game can be sorted by limit, stake, number of people seated and on the waitlist. There are also sortable statistics on viewed-flop percentage, average pot size and the number of hands per hour. While highlighted, player usernames, city location and chip amounts are also viewable.

The lobby is also where you redeem FFP’s for rewards and withdraw/deposit with the cashier. There is also a GC500 section and help desk available.

PlayersOnly hosts No-Limit(NL), Fixed-Limit(FL), and Pot-Limit(PL) Texas Hold’em games and L/PL games of Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven Scard Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo. The small to mid stakes Texas hold’em games are generally the most popular at hours and vary between short-handed, full and heads-up tables.

Competition:

There are many beginner poker players on PlayersOnly tables because the site is so young and recruits new players heavily through a multitude of very competitive sign-up promotions that should be seriously taken advantage of. The beginning players play mostly at the small fixed limit tables and competition does become much stiffer at the higher stakes, No-Limit tables as is usual. In turn, the games are loosest and juiciest at the smaller stakes tables and tightens up only slightly at the higher stakes tables.

Rake Structure:

The rake at PlayersOnly is generally 5% with a max rake of $3. At lower tables, however, players are actually given a decent break with the max rake decreasing to $1 when 2-3 players are playing and $2 when 4-5 players are playing.
